It is believed that my deceased friends relative went with smith and Wesson to Springfield, Massachusetts. I wonder if some where there may be a list of employees. the serial number on this one is 36xxxx It's possible that The 10/24 is October 24th 1972, and the builder or inspector had the initials S.B. It doesn't have a price because employees weren't allowed to show their cost but his signature is there and could be connected to the RENDTCP. Somewhere in his affects is an original receipt. This one has "RENDTCP" ink stamped into the barrel inlet. that was custom built for a friend of mine by his relative that was an inspector at Thompson Center in '92. Thompson Center started production of the Hawken rifle in 1970. Serial number 488xxx, which means it is pretty new and might have the QBL barrel. Oh, I just one an auction for a T/C Hawken too. that was bought new in 1972 and the serial number is 65xxx, in the barrel inlet on the stock is date of 10/24 and the initials SB. I have taken apart my lock and using a Dremel, and Flitz, polished up any part that touched any other part. Cut down some of the big cheek weld, reshaped the bull nose and the wrist to provide a bit better grip and more flow to the stock. Took my wood shaping tools to the original stock. (Same solution I used on the replacement barrel and steel RR lugs.) I removed the lame (yes lame) factory pretend lock case hardening and just used a patina solution to darken it. I don't like shiny brass except for a front sight blade. Using heat and bluing chemicals I blackened every brass part that was left. Inlayed the T\C wedge plates and trigger lock screw. Replaced the original T\C set trigger and trigger guard with a period correct (not that it 's not a true Hawken representation) Set trigger and TG. In the interest of consumer safety, we have initiated the following recalls to all for the prompt inspection and, if necessary, the repair of specific Thompson/Center Accessories. Green MT barrels have much deeper rifling than the shallow T\C's It requires a quick swab after about 10 shots now. The firearm is now consistently accurate out to 100 yards. They did send a copy of the manual in 4 days. I have looked in the Blue book, searched on the net, even sent the company a email without any luck. It now (well for 15 years) has a Green MT replacement barrel. Does anyone know if Thompson Center Contenders can be dated buy the serial number Bought one over the weekend at a gun show serial 150xxx. The "stuff" that's been changed\replaced: Since the below pics were taken, I've removed the rear Lyman peep and dovetailed in a rear iron sight, and I've removed the original T\C fiber optic front sight and replaced with a brass blade. T\C can be credited to many people getting into the sport of flintlock for deer, and just shooting 'em at the range or in walk-thru's. T\C Hawken's are not the end all of flintlocks.
